Compulsory one In Age. L-R Ondine Achampong, Halle Hilton, Shanna-Kae Grant, Ramiyah Kofi, Anna Hollins, Isla Lees.
As our current crop of juniors return from Bern having won team silver at the European Championships, attention now turns to the next generation with the Compulsory two and one national finals held at Pipers Vale over the weekend.
For more information on the British compulsory testing system, and required skills for each level, see here:
For those taking compulsory two in age (born 2005), they will be second year juniors for the 2020 junior European championships, and expected to make up the majority of the team. Gymnasts must pass compulsory two in order to progress to compulsory one next year, the compulsory results are also added to the voluntary national finals scores later in the year, to determine the overall level two British champion.
The pass mark for compulsory two is 53.00
Those gymnasts taking compulsory one in age this year are first year Espoirs (born 2004), and as such will be first year juniors in 2018 when the next junior Europeans take place in Glasgow. Catherine Lyons, Teal Grindle, and Taeja James all now have European medals having been selected as first year juniors, so it is definitely worth keeping an eye on those coming near the top of the field. A pass at compulsory one is also the primary path to being able to compete in the British Espoir Championships later in the year.
The pass mark for compulsory one is 54.00
In both age groups, gymnasts compete as individuals for their clubs, as opposed to representing their regions in teams as they did at levels four and three. Gymnasts also have the option to compete out of age, allowing older gymnasts to try to pass the level, and this year there were out of age gymnasts entered at both levels.
A very high pass rate for both levels over the weekend, a big well done to all the gymnasts taking part, and the coaches that have helped them get there.

Compulsory Two
British Champion at Compulsory 2, Rosie Bayliss of Europa
Congratulations to Rosie Bayliss of Europa the new British compulsory two champion. Europa are very strong in this age group, entering four gymnasts, and all finishing in the top eight even with some errors. City of Birmingham were also very strong here, with three gymnasts entered, and again all finishing in the top eight. South Essex entered one gymnast, also finishing the top eight. A sure sign of things to come as those that are following development, Espoir, and Junior gymnastics in Great Britain will know. Europa, City of Birmingham, and South Essex are very much on the rise, producing beautiful gymnasts, and likely to be challenging for the British team title in years to come.

Compulsory One
British Champion at Compulsory 1, Halle Hilton of Europa
Europa took the top spot again in Compulsory one, with Halle Hilton coming out on top today in her ongoing battle with Sapphire’s Ondine Achampong. These two talented young gymnasts remain at the very top of this age group in Great Britain. I am looking forward to seeing both girls make an impact at the British Espoir championships later in the year now they have qualified. A great result for Shanna- Kae Grant of Leeds to take the bronze, and congratulations to all the gymnasts who passed, as they have now completed the compulsory system, and are now qualified to compete at British Championships. A huge achievement.
