2017 English Championships: Results Seniors.

As with the Espoirs yesterday, again apologies for lack of detailed coverage and reporting here.  It is of course lovely to get any coverage at all, but as I said the English Championships are difficult to follow in terms of giving much detail, in that they are a nine way split of a single screen live feed without sound.

There is a reason I am very happy with the AA result here, Leatherhead and Dorking’s Sophie Scott has long shown huge potential, but has had a drawn out battle with injury keeping her out of AA competition for some time. It was great to finally see her AA at the British, and now for her to take the English title in her second senior competition will be huge boost to her confidence going forward.

I am equally happy for City of London’s Tyesha Mattis, having been the top junior of her age group, she has fought through so much injury for so long, and never given up. To see her finally return to AA competition here today after many years was reason enough to celebrate, to then see her take the silver AA was the icing on the cake. May this be the beginning of a long injury free period for both ladies.

Park Wrekin’s Alice Kinsella takes the bronze, from the scores it looks as though she didn’t have the best day on bars and beam today, and she may be a little disappointed as she was very much capable of taking the title here. An AA bronze at her first senior English is still to be celebrated though, and there is so much more to come from this incredibly determined and hard working young lady.

Beam

I did actually see Claudia Fragapane’s beam, her standing Arabian looks very strong, she did a nice change to W jump, flick straight which was nicely done, and I wonder whether she will stick with this for the moment rather than bringing back the full. Strong standing full, tuck jump half, W full, and a clean double twist which is clearly going to be a triple. Well done Claudia.

Congratulations too go to Lucy Stanhope of Liverpool on her silver, and to Phoebe Turner on her bronze, and her lovely Yurchenko to flick layout mount which I caught, as well as Tyesha Mattis who I also saw with a very snappy flick layout layout, and who shared the bronze with Phoebe.

Floor

I didn’t see any floor’s, but this was clearly Claudia coming back toward her best here as a 14.000 is a strong score under the new code, and she’s made a positive case for Euro’s selection here today.

Well done to Sophie and Alice too on their silver and bronze medals.
