If you feel as though it’s been an age since the British seniors have been in action, it’s probably because it has! We last saw them four months ago back in April when Alice, Becky, Claudia and Ellie competed at European Championships. Their competition schedule was heavy through the spring, then a quiet summer, and as we now head into Autumn, things get going again in the build up to World Championships which begin in almost exactly a month, on the 02nd of October.
Starting tomorrow/today depending on when you are reading this, Kelly Simm and Georgia-Mae Fenton will compete at the Varna World Cup in Bulgaria. For those that saw the original roster with Charlie Fellows and Alice Kinsella listed, panic not, both are fine, these things change all the time.
Kelly will compete on bars only as she comes back to competition for the first time since the Rushmoor Rosebowl almost a year ago, Georgia will also have a chance to get her big bar routine out into competition at senior international level.
September 08th-10th will be the Szombathely World Cup in Hungary, Amy Tinkler and Maisie Methuen are scheduled to compete there. We last saw both these gymnasts almost six months ago, Amy at the London World Cup where she took AA bronze, and Maisie at the British Championships where she took silver AA and the Senior floor title.
September 09th-10th there is a senior team international scheduled for Duiven in The Netherlands. Team competition on the 9th, finals on the 10th, a great opportunity to prove readiness before World Championships . GB will take on The Netherlands, Egypt, Israel, and Spain.
The weekend of the 16th and 17th sees two events. Firstly the Paris World Cup where Claudia and Georgia are currently scheduled to compete, Claudia is listed AA when we’ve only seen her on beam and floor so far this year, but all of the gymnasts entered are listed AA, it doesn’t mean they will all compete all pieces.
The second event of the year is a new event for 2017, the Adrain Stan Team Championships. This is an event open to senior and junior teams, teams of mixed ages, national and non national squad member teams with competition within separate categories, and and overall competition. It will also be an official World Championship trial.
So there we go, lots of action throughout this month from the senior squad, good luck ladies!
