The Annual Rushmoor Rosebowl took place at Rushmoor Gymnastics Academy over this weekend. The competition is open to international, regional, and club teams, with gymnasts as young as ten, and up to senior level all competing together, so a big age and ability range.

Team Competition

Great Britain entered a junior and senior team, and England an A and B team.

In the overall team event:

The GB senior team of Taeja James (City of Birmingham) promoted to the senior ranks a few months early here, Phoebe Turner (The Academy), Ellesse Oates (Park Wrekin) happily returning from injury, Latalia Bevan (St Tyfil), and new senior and GB squad member Emily Thomas (Pen y Bont) comfortably took the title by just over eight points.

GB Juniors took silver, and Jolie Ruckley (Cardiff Olympic) aside, a team of Espoir gymnasts looking to impress in their first international call up before moving on to the the junior ranks in 2018. Annie Young (Norfolk Academy), Leah Greenland (South Durham), Mia Scott (South Durham), Shanna-Kae Grant (Leeds) all now forever GB internationals, and their eyes firmly set on Junior Europeans next year and the fight for team places in a big talent pool.

England A took bronze, Jessica Daykin (Wiltshire), Eleanor Green (Tameside) , India Sale (Heathrow), Lauren Jones (Vernon Park), and Megan Bridge (Gym Magic) comfortably ahead of their England B team mates to secure a place on the podium.

In the regional team event the South East Team of Amanda Cook (Pegasus), Amelia Montague (Tolworth), Georgia Moors (Uckfield), and Izzy Hilliard (Leatherhead and Dorking), Shannon Baker (The Meapa) took the title.

Full team results

A note here, when the results went up last night, they were different to how they are today, and there were a couple of changes in the totals, and the overall team rankings. Hopefully these are the final, and correct scores and placements.

AA Competition

Overall it wasn’t a huge surprise to see Taeja top the standings, although I imagine she will be pleased to have as she is not at full strength just now. A silver for Emily Thomas in her first GB call up, and proving the GB selectors right as she works hard for selection to the Welsh Commonwealth Games team next year. Bronze for Annie Young, and another impressive result for her as she heads towards Olympic Hopes, and British Espoirs. She is also currently competing well, something the Junior European team selectors will be looking for when they decide not only who is not only strong, but who can be relied upon to hit in competition.

In the under 13’s category, Greenwich Royals and GB development squad member Maddie Roberts was the highest scorer, she again is looking to build toward a successful Espoirs Championships in December.

Finally, the elegance award went to Notts gymnast Scarlett Williams, and if you have seen Scarlett compete, you will understand why. A beautifully elegant and expressive gymnast, well done Scarlett.

  1. I really can’t used to to these new lower scores yet- It’s been almost a year and I’m still mentally adding to make it a “last quad” score! Congratulations to all the gymnasts.
